MY STUDY FAMILY TREE

In 1927 a letter from David Walter Study was sent to the authors of the Forney Five Family Records Book (1932) Charles Forney and Guy Forney. Here is a quote from the letter:

"The family history as I remember it is to the effect that two young men,
one, of whom was named Study, were drafted in the Hessian Army
and sent over to America against their will, to fight against the colonists.

Soon after landing, at the first opportunity, no doubt, they deserted the
Hessian Army and joined Washington's Army. After the
Revolutionary War, the young man, Study, and perhaps the other
one too, who it runs in my mind was an Ettelman, settled in
Maryland at Hagarstown. My Grandfather was a son by his
first wife and later went to Ohio. The original Study, an elderly
man now, married a second time, and from this second wife there
sprung a number of children of which my grandfather knew
very little."

The author of this letter was the son of Leonard Study, who is a son of John Study, who is the one referred to as grandfather, while John's father is Christian (Christopher) Study, the Hessian Soldier.

The line "My Grandfather was a son by his first wife and later went to Ohio." should actually say second wife which would make it historically accurate.

I am Darreld Ernest Studie. My father is Willard Ernest Studie, whose father was John David Study, the son of Francis Marion Study whose father was David C. Study, the second son of Christian Study. Happily, this makes me a direct descendent of Christian Study.

CHRISTIAN STUDY
b. 7 Jan 1763 d. 12 Aug 1829

Possibly Christopher Study or Katreen Study

Christian or Christopher Study is the Patriarch of the American side of the family. The european side remains a mystery for now. His head and foot stone markers still stand in the rear northeast section of the Study Stone Church yard where he was buried along side his two wives. The church is located in Little Cove in Warren Township, Bedford County (now Franklin County), Pennsylvania. Much is known about Christian Study in Pennsylvania, but nothing is known to date about him before his arrival in America. Perhaps there are records in Germany, then Prussia, in which he will appear, perhaps in the records of the Hessian Army rolls, or church records.

Christian was married in 1783 to Mary Long, the daughter of John Long. They had one daughter, Catharine Study, who married John Boyer and whose children were mentioned in the will of Christian Study.

Christian married Margaret Long, the daughter of John Long in 1798(?) Margaret died in 1815. Christian had seven children with Margaret. Their names were Mary Study, John Study, Elizabeth Study, David C. Studdy/Study, Susannah Study, Hannah Study, and Susan Study.

Christian's third wife seemingly was Elizabeth Smith, (1795-1863) who is buried at the Methodist Church.

Here is David Forney's Theory on Christian Study's origins.

This is the direct male lineage of the Study family to this date and as complete as I can make it until more information is made available to me. I will be getting the individual pages online as fast as I can. Please be patient with me as this takes some time to hunt down, gather facts, and put them together.
